An American Civil War

Lt Col P threw this thought-grenade over the transom to me, and so on his behalf we present this article to you our Readers. Please read it all, especially the comments. I do have two tactical objections to the view presented: the city folk won’t stay in the cities, and it will be impossible to keep millions from migrating (both voluntarily fleeing the cities or being pushed out at the barrel of guns) outward into the surrounding suburbs; and the people will be blended – folks won’t be wearing Che t-shirts or proclaiming ‚God, Guns and BBQ‘ on their truck bumpers. That will make for a much deadlier conflict than a mere ‚tens of millions.‘

If you look at more recent civil wars around the world, there have been quite a few bloody, genocidal orgies. I’d like to think that Americans would behave differently, but I lack any supporting evidence that they would. Nothing brings out the worst in people like an emotional civil war.

One data point to consider is the strength of religion within the culture. If the religion is considered atheistic (I know there is no such thing as atheism), such as communism-nazism, Global Warming, or even that practiced by the so-called „Cultural Christians“ then all hell is let loose. The angels of our better natures morph from St. Michael and Gabriel to Fatigue and Not-more-bullets-at-the-moment. Americans have been steeped in the culture of Death since 1973, so killing won’t be taboo.

Not exactly the most pleasant thing to be war gaming so close to the Holidays but I’m reminded of a recent meme I saw on FB: „One side has at least a trillion rounds of ammunition stockpiled while the other side can’t decide which bathroom to use!“ It wouldn’t be pretty especially since most of our daily lives revolve around JIT warehousing concepts. A very bad day to be dependent on maintenance meds and unstable foodstuffs. .

Shame on Caldwalader for writing such an alarmist and overwrought doomsday scenario. A backhanded declaration of his lack of faith in the American people, clumsily clothed in a pauedo-patriotic rant about how some will conquer and some will not. If he’s worried about this, he’s only increasing the odds by publishing rubbish like that.

I guess it did get him some clicks, mine included.
