The most under-reported battlespace in the global war on terrorism is the economy of terrorism. I’m not talking about how Bubba buys a Chevy so he can plow down masses of minorities in Virginia – a daily threat, I’m sure. What I’m saying is terrorism is big business in which beheading the competition is literal. Recent events such as the Panama Papers, the newer Paradise Papers, and the current purge of Saudi financiers of terrorism, AKA Princes, in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon are opening windows into the legal and extra-legal world of buying butchers and Bentleys. But for Americans, especially Virginians, the biggest threats are those bearded backwoods Bubbas in bib-overalls driving a pickup truck, probably sporting a Gadsden flag licence plate, too.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have a pickup truck. Haven’t felt the slightest twinge to commit an act of terror – is that a banjo a-twangin’?
