Another Trip Down the New Rifle / New Caliber Road

Here.

The weapon designs being tested will be “unconventional,” officials said, and likely not one that is currently commercially available.

Some intermediate calibers being tested include the .260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor, .264 USA as well as other non-commercial intermediate calibers, including cased telescoped ammo, Army officials said.

„Unconventional design“ often ends up meaning „weird, maintenance-intensive, and expensive“. Or, „something really interesting and promising that gets fucked up during the acquisition process,“ such as we noted here.

But, it’d be nice to see it go the other way!

So, essentially, we’re generating a huge, Yuuuge market/profit cycle for whomever wins this contest (or purchases an obnoxious senator). NATO and whomever else we have agreements to have compatible supplies will have to buy from us.

This is the stupidest shit in the world. There’s literally no point in changing calibers, the M4 is a fast and accurate weapon when well maintained and trained with. The issues we have now won’t change if we adopt a new caliber or different rifle style. The only thing we should be pushing for is a major technology upgrade such as polymer cased bullets courtesy of the LSAT program. Otherwise what’s the point?

Now…since FN had a SCAR chambered in .260 Remington at SOFIC, put that on the civilian Market so I can maintain the same caliber as my bolt gun. THANKS.

The M4 sucks so bad tat Dyson studies it to make the latest vacuum cleaner. The gas tube is the worst aspect and next to the most recent ACU, demonstrates that the Army should leave combat technology to the Marines.

But the problem with that is the Marines rely on the Army to field Combat technology for them to buy used 30 years late.
