Marine Commandant Gen. Robert Neller is also allowing Marines who are at least 46 years old to row five kilometers on a rowing machine in lieu of running for the Physical Fitness Test, according to the Marine Corps’ fitness website.

    That escaped my notice, but then again since I retired from the uniformed existence many things escape my notice. Very interesting. Could be an unconscious nod to the event that brought about what we know today as the Marine Corps Marathon– a race down the Potomac between a man on a rowing scull and a man running down the C&O Canal towpath.

    Once upon a time, Marines over 46 didn’t take a PFT at ALL. They were exempt.
