Attack in Nice: XBradTC Has a Suggestion

„We should probably import tens of thousands of refugees who despise our culture.“

He’s being sarcastic, naturellement, but high-level officials in the US government and its culture war allies think that’s a fine idea, entirely appropriate and long overdue.

Oh, and I just heard on the radio that in response to the Nice attack, GERMANY is going to step up checks and patrols on its border with France.

Can’t make this up.

Though many people in the US don’t seem to know it, we resettled about 80,000 Bosnian refugees over a decade or so, almost all Muslim, almost all resettled here in St Louis, during the long conflict in the Balkans. Many have been my students over the 15 years I’ve been a community college professor. I have Syrian refugees in my classes every semester–one or two, usually, in each section. One of the reasons they have been successfully integrated into St Louis is that they are allowed to practice their religion freely–something that is not necessarily the case in France–headscarves are banned, for example, in schools there–another reason is that the vast majority of refugees are escaping the violence rather than perpetrating it. „Re-Catholicizing“ France, something the vast majority of French do not want or they would have done it already, is probably the wrong answer.

„Re-Catholicising“ isn’t so much about imposing Il Papa on France but the desire to abandon the post-modern nihilism that dooms France to accepting cultural and actual annihilation. That is something the French do want, but the struggle is over whose post-post-modernism vision shall win.
