VMI ’89 Takes Over Recruit Training Regiment at Parris Island (Again)

Brother Rat Colonel Matt StClair ’89 has been sent down to PI as a hot-fill for CO of the Recruit Training Regiment.

What’s missing from that article is that Brother Rat Colonel Wayne Jones ’89 held that same billet a couple years ago!

While it’s not rare to have a VMI grad in command of a Marine Regiment– indeed, it’s preferable!– having two members of the same class command the same regiment is rare, if not singular.

General Sam S. Walker would be proud… NOT! Ha ha ha.

(And thanks to Brother Rats NAC’89 and DRM’89 who sent in the word.)

PI has had more than its fair share of controversy lately. Glad to see a VMI guy is going to get it right. One small question–is his the official Marine Corps visage? Do folks learn that grimace at some point? As the famous major Jock Sinclair, DSO, MM, used to ask (Alec Guinness in Tunes of Glory): “Smile, man. Have ye got no teeth?”

Brother Rat StClair’s grim visage conceals a much more light-hearted personality, a devil-take-the-hindmost beau sabreur who would have been at home riding with Marshal Murat, Jeb Stuart, or Colonel Mosby. Or not. He’s pretty much all-business. 🙂
