So far, we’ve been mum on Malheur, the site of the armed occupation in Oregon. There’s a lot going on there and if you, for example, think it’s only a freak show of armed malcontents, then I say that you are more correct than not, but that you’re missing a much bigger picture.
WRSA has the best daily „link dump“ on the subject, with articles pro-, anti-, and neutral. I strongly recommend perusing the lists there. Among the many pieces linked at WRSA so far are–
- A good solid skewering of some of the people who have occupied the refuge buildings
- A really good op-ed by an Oregon rancher who decries the occupiers but explains the larger issue
- A very good expose on the abusive and corrupt prosecutor who petitioned the Feds to re-sentence the Hammonds
- Some background on the original case against the Hammonds
Lots more going on out there than meets the eye. I hope, fervently, that it does not end in bloodshed, and that the occupiers can be persuaded to stand down and depart. And that the BLM learns a thing or two out of this.
